My name is Thomas Fitzgerald. I am a retired, 74 year old grandfather and long-time resident of the Philadelphia area. With more time on my hands I have returned to my first love, painting and am producing the landscapes that I love.
My wife and I travel a bit, so my paintings tend to be of the places we have been, the Dominican Republic, Ireland, Scotland, Alaska, Italy, Croatia, Greece, Spain, France, Germany, Austria, and the southwestern U.S.
In the mid-‘50’s I was employed in N.Y.C. as a technical illustrator while attending the School of Visual Arts in the evening. At the time the school was known as the Cartoonist & Illustrator’s School (C & I). I studied anatomy and life drawing under the famed Burne Hogarth, and majored in illustration.
By the mid-60’s I was married, with three children, had switched careers and relocated to the Philadelphia area.
By 1970 our family had grown to eight and I was now vice president of a large commercial real estate firm. I continued to attend art classes in the evenings, wherever and whenever I could. I studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Fleisher Memorial (where I was accepted into the atelier), and most recently, the Wallingford Community Arts Center.
I am a member of the Community Arts Center, Philadelphia Sketch Club, and The Art League.
